ACTIVITIES FOR BIGS & LITTLES
- Eat lunch with your Little at school.
- Go on a sound scavenger hunt with a tape recorder.
- Make a collage of your lives with pictures cut from magazines or pictures.
- Make giant soap bubbles.
- Plan an imaginary vacation.
- Roast marshmallows with toothpicks over the flame of a candle.
- Learn a simple magic trick and amaze your friends.
- Show your Little your high school yearbook picture.
- Paint an original T-shirt.
- Find all the living things on a one-foot square of grass.
- Learn to count to 10 in a foreign language.
- Go to football or volleyball game at the high school your Little will attend.
- Wash the car.
- Feed the birds.
- Create a tornado in a bottle; put colored water in a two-liter bottle, connect another bottle to it like an hourglass, turn it over and give it a swirl.
- Start a coin or stamp collection.
- Read biographies of people who did great things.
- Make mini-pizzas using English muffins
- Donate old toys and clothes to a community shelter.
- Check out a tree identification book from the library and discover which trees grow in your neighborhood.
- Using the letters from a big word, see how many smaller words you can create.
- Train together and participate in a one-K fun run.
- Invite someone who has lived in a foreign country over for dinner and to talk about life in that country.
- Teach your Little to use a fire extinguisher.
- Order sea monkeys or a Chia pet and watch them grow.
- Skip rocks on water.
- Speak highly of the people in your life.
- Enjoy a fresh coconut or pineapple.
- Make a video movie.
- Go to a photographer's darkroom and learn how negatives and prints are made.
- Visit a farm and milk a cow.
- Build a house of cards together.
- Make your own code with numbers representing letters. Send each other coded messages.
- Teach your pet a new trick.
- Maintain a scrapbook of all the things you do together. Include ticket stubs, pictures, brochures and other mementos.
- Rearrange the furniture in your living room.
- Learn how to dance.
- Decorate eggs -- not just at Easter.
- Visit a health center.
- Create s'mores with graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate chunks. Heat them in the oven, microwave, or over an open fire.
- Assemble a model or bookcase.
- Rent a canoe.
- Bake and frost cutout cookies.
- Whack golf balls at the driving range.
- Have a Monopoly tournament.
- Paint an old piece of furniture.
- Visit a college.
- Learn how to fix your bikes.
- Tour the UW Arboretum.
- Shop for hats bearing the insignia of your Little's favorite sports team.
- Sit at the mall or in a park and watch people.
- Make foods from around the world and learn how people live in that country.
- Tell each other stories. Start by giving the other a starting sequence, such as "I was walking to school the other day and I saw..."
- Take an art class together.
- Volunteer to build a house with Habitat for Humanity, help people at Special Olympics events for serve Meals on Wheels.
- Learn to make homemade root beer or ice cream.
- Fly a kite.
- Take them with you to vote.
- Collect and press leaves or flowers.
- Rake leaves.
- Build a snowman.
- Roast pumpkin seeds.
- Plant flower bulbs or plants.
- Brush your dog.
- Construct and paint a birdfeeder.
- Make caramel apples, caramel corn, rice krispie treats, etc.
