COMMUNITY-BASED PROGRAM
Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most rewarding and
enjoyable things you will ever do. It's easy, too. Your "Little"
can join you for the kinds of activities you already like to do,
such as:
- Shooting Hoops
- Playing a video game
- Eating pizza
- Taking a walk in the park
- Gardening
- Baking Cookies
- Go to the movies
Who volunteers to be a "Big"?
A "Big" can be anyone 18 years or older who has the desire to want to
help positively impact a child's life. "Bigs" may be single or married
and represent many different backgrounds and life experiences. "Bigs"
all share an interest in the healthy development of youth.
What are "Bigs" expected to do?
"Bigs" along with parents provide youth with additional support,
guidance, and friendship. They are good listeners, and want to help
young people learn about themselves and help them define who they are.
Why is it so important for me to become a "Big"?
Being a Big Brother or Big Sister means being a friend, and bringing
a little magic into your life and that of a child. Think back to when
you were a child. Who was it that brought magic into your life just
by being there? Who do you always remember with a smile? Maybe it
was an aunt who taught you to cook or a neighbor who let you help him
fix his car. Maybe it was someone who included you in everyday
activities of life because it was fun for both of you. Being a
"Big" is one of the best decisions you'll ever make. No matter where
you are in life right now, being a Big will make it better!
